It’s International Polar Bear Day! Meet Pepper the Polar Bear!

What better way to celebrate that by release my pattern for this cutie!  Meet Pepper the Polar Bear!

Pepper is simply an adaptation/modification of my Barley the Beagle Dog pattern.  So, click on over to that post and I will note my changes right here.  Of course, ignore all the color changing stuff that doesn’t pertain to Pepper.

Pepper would be super cute for Christmas!

Barley and Pepper- as you can see- are very versatile patterns.

This post contains affiliate links. I will get a small percentage of any purchase made through my blog, but it won’t change your price. If you don’t already own a set of Clover hooks now is the time to purchase them. As I post this they are on sale 47% off!

Pepper uses Caron One Pound yarn in White and a scrap bit of black and some purple button eyes.

Pepper’s nose is a little larger so for the nose do an extra increase row – so, 6, 12, 18, 24, and 24.  FO with long tail to sew and stuff a little and embroider a mouth. So, for Pepper there is no making a tongue and leaving an opening to sew that in.

I wanted Peppers head to be a little shorter so for Pepper you will skip the rows: 8, 9, 14 and 15.

Pepper also has different ears so here is how you will make those:

For the ears I used my H size hook.  Chain 3 and put 10 DC into the 3rd chain from hook to make circle.  Join.  Chain up 2.  Make 2 dc in each stitch around (20).  Join.  Chain up 2.  Make 2 dc in same stitch as chain up 2 (chain up does not count as a stitch) , 1 DC in next, (2dc in next, 1 dc in next) repeat around (30 dc).  Join. Chain up 2.  Make 1 SINGLE CROCHET in each stitch around.  FO but leave tail for sewing to head.  I sewed my ears between rounds 26-27.  Hide yarn tails inside head by weaving in and out a few times.

For Pepper’s scarf I used a ball of leftover #7 bulky yarn and my N/9.00mm hook.  It is just hdc and blo.  So, for my yarn I chained 11 and did 10 hdc across and then for each row after that just work in the BLO.  Just leave a tail when it gets to the desired length and sew up.  You probably want to sew while Pepper is wearing it because Pepper is chubby and it might not go on after.  My scarf is folded down in half.

I hope you enjoy Pepper.  If you make up any of these patterns I would love for you to comment or tag me over on IG @theburgundybasket

Thank you
