Busy, busy, busy…2 bedroom makeovers.

I’ll be back at my love, crochet, soon – I hope. I have another alphabet to post and a few more farm animals so stay tuned.

I am a thrifter. I’m a junk salvager. I’m a furniture repurposer and sometimes I feel like a magician!

When I get to thrift and change furniture into new and useful pieces, it feels amazing!

We’ve been so busy cleaning and repainting some of the rooms in our house. Our two oldest girls moved out and left us empty, blank canvases to remake. I love having a blank canvas to redo! So, we’ve been scrubbing and painting and refreshing two rooms and bathrooms. I’m sitting at Lowe’s now waiting on my husband to go grab some things we need and I thought I’d share some of my favorite redos for/from the two rooms we are making over. – and almost everything in these two rooms is recycled, repurposed, and/or thrifted! You don’t have to spend a ton of money to redecorate a room.

So, here we go. My favorites from my two bedroom makeovers so far.

This dresser was left behind and in dire need of a deep cleaning and redo. It has been in one of the girls rooms for about 5 years now. Originally, she wanted it painted aqua – it needed a refresh – so, first I sanded it and took the aqua “down” a bit – this was also the best way to clean this one from the stains (coffee and makeup.) After that, I went over it with a natural stain to protect the bare wood that I exposed and then added some paint washes and glaze. This “mermaid” dresser is now fun!

The second piece that I am just absolutely in love with is this mirror/bench. Here is what I started with:

I had thrifted this huge mirror from a dresser a long time ago and it sat in my garage waiting for just the right piece to go with it. Then, one day while out thrifting I came upon this wooden bench. I wanted to redo the bench and update it (didn’t even think about the mirror). So, I brought it home and sat it in the garage and I just happened to sit it next to the giant mirror and the lightbulb in my brain popped on and this happened.

I’m so in love with this piece that I can’t express it. When you can take two random pieces of “junk” and combine them into something so sensational it really is a fantastic feeling. I’ll use this to added a few extra blankets in the bottom.

Here’s another completely remade piece. We had an old table we picked up at a yard sale for $1! (the top was ruined) – so, we cut the bottom off of this table and mounted it on this back to make into a blanket/towel/robe hanger/hook. This is a good example of how to look at broken furniture a little different.

Above is a thrifted bookshelf I have had. Don’t let an “ugly” piece keep you from buying it. This wasn’t the most beautiful bookshelf, but it was solid and structurally sound and large! I needed a nice large shelf so this one go a fresh makeover. I ended up painting it the same color as the wall behind it. This is such a fresh piece now.

This old well bucket turned into a toilet paper holder with extra roll storage might be one of my most favorite things we’ve ever repurposed. We thrifted this old well bucket and used the metal toilet paper holder that was in the bathroom already and combined them. We cut the top off the toilet paper holder, drilled some holes in it and screwed to the bucket handle. This piece is so unique! Transformations are so fun!

Old ugly bed? Paint it! This old, depressing sleigh bed is now fabulous in it’s new green paint.

Okay, that’s it for now. I have to get back at it. I have one bathroom left to paint and some pictures to hang.

Oh, speaking of pictures to hang. Here are 3 pictures that one of our girls painted and left in her closet. We framed them and hung on the walls in our two new rooms.

If you have kids trust me on this – keep your kids art work – frame the best of it all through their growth – from preschool on – Framing and using their art on your walls not only fosters their growth, pride and confidence, but you will come to cherish these pieces more than most anything in your home <3 With four kids we have a huge art gallery in our home <3

So, anyway, I’ll be back with more patterns soon.
